Foreign Ministry Development Aid Grows 25%
Last year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spent a total of 3.8 million euros in aid and humanitarian assistance for developing countries - a 25 percent increase compared to 2010.
UNICEF’s efforts to protect children in Yemen and Somalia from becoming victims of human trafficking and Afghanistan’s efforts to build up a health care sector in its Helmand province were the two most recent international projects in which the Foreign Ministry participated.
The total sum of international development contributions made by all state agencies last year, however, is currently being calculated, Helen Rits, spokeswoman for the ministry told uudised.err.ee.
According to initial estimates, the sum should exceed the 13 million-euro mark recorded in 2010, said Rits.
