The ten bars the Tallinn City Government subjected to tougher alcohol sale and opening hours restrictions have decided to launch a joint motion against the city.

Vallo Palvadre, member of the board of Nimeta Management OÜ that owns the Bar With No Name, said the landlords will take the decision to court.

“It's incomprehensible to us why those 10 bars have been chosen that have to close their doors early. At the same time, there are others, 30-40 meters away, that can stay open until 05:00 or however long they like, “ Palvadre told ERR.

This issue is most acute on Müürivahe street, where the economic activity of Valli Bar will be restricted, but Club Hollywood, located across the street, is allowed to carry on as before.

“I could say that if the act is made that way, it cannot unfair,” District Head Alar Nääme said in response, adding that it is now for the court to decide if it is or is not unfair.

Members of the city government also reasoned that the nightclub is not located in a residential building and it sells tickets that become invalid when customers exit the building.

The restrictions apply to the following bars and pubs: the Bar With No Name, Shooters, Route 13, Valli Bar, Taco Express, Dubliner, Bayern & Bohmen Keller, St Patrick's Bar and Labor.

The named venues will not be allowed to sell alcoholic beverages after 00:00 at weekdays and 01:00 at weekends. They also have to stop serving customers no later than an hour after that.

According to the city government, the restrictions are being enforced to solve problems with public order in the area.
