Savisaar: I doubt my case goes to court (2)
Suspended Tallinn Mayor Edgar Savisaar said the bribery charges against him will not stick and the case will not even go to court.
He said IRL is behind the latest accusations, and the Internal Security Service (ISS) has ties with IRL. One former director is now an IRL MP, he said, adding that current head Arnold Sinisalu was promoted by IRL minister Ken-Marti Vaher and Sinisalu will also probably enter politics with IRL.
“I won more votes at the last elections than I or anyone else has ever done before. 39,979 people gave me a clear mandate to continue working and to not retire,” Savisaar said, answering a question regarding his latest health troubles. He added that his health is already in a good state, and that he will one day retire to write books.
Savisaar was named suspect in a bribery case in an ISS-led investigation a month ago. The core of the charge lies in city's economic decisions in favor of a number of well-known businessmen and those close to the Center Party.
