Parliament Extends Armed Forces' Missions
Parliament gave formal authorization to the Defense Forces' foreign missions in seven countries next year, approving the deployment of up to 242 soldiers.
Up to three members of the Defense Forces can participate in a non-combat role in UN peacekeeping missions in Lebanon, Israel, Egypt and Syria.
The bulk of the soldiers are in Afghanistan, but most will be pulling out of the country along with other NATO forces by autumn next year.
Estonian participation in EU and UN missions in Mali will also be extended, with up to a dozen soldiers. Another three may be sent to Kosovo.
An additional 40 soldiers may be deployed to foreign missions as part of NATO quick reaction forces.
