New Russian-language channel to focus on local success stories, says head (10)
Darja Saar, who will head ERR's new Russian-language TV channel, said the focus of the channel will be to highlight stories of successful Russian-speaking locals.
“The idea of the channel is to communicate success stories to everyday people, and stories of normal people who have made good in different fields in Estonia, achieving success in Estonia or on an international level. And there are plenty of fields – it can be cooking, sports, art, the creative industries, business etc,” Saar told ETV.
She said the Estonian Public Broadcasting channel's advantage over other Russian-language outlets will be the focus on local people, and on how they can prosper and be happy in Estonia.
The aim is for Russian-language speakers in Estonia to reach other Russian-language speakers in the nation, and introduce different aspects of life in Estonia, she said, adding that programming will be educational, informative and entertaining. “There will be space for talk shows and debate forums,” Saar said.
Saar will start in her new position in April. She said her first aim is to successfully launch the channel on September 28.
