Foundation Hands Out €40,000 in Scholarships
The state-owned Archimedes Foundation granted 10 undergraduate students, officially accepted to start their bachelor's studies at top overseas universities, a total of 40,000 euros worth of scholarships.
The scholarships were handed out by President Toomas Hendrik Ilves at a ceremonial gathering at the Tallinn Secondary Science School on August 24.
In total, 41 students had applied for the scholarships, which are financed by contributions from both the public and private sectors.
"Whereas up to now getting [good grades] has been relatively easy, in these renowned universities you will placed in a situation where the people sitting on your right and left are all exceptional students," said Ilves, adding that competition in such colleges is fierce.
This year's recipients will be studying in the UK, US and Germany, with their chosen specialties including chemistry, physics, IT, archeology and linguistics.
