Computer Error Lowers 1,268 State Exam Scores
A computer error caused the state geography exam results of 1,268 secondary school students to be lowered by one point.
While reviewing the results of the finals - five of those must be passed to graduate from secondary school and seek university admission - officials discovered that the computer did not administer points to one specific geography question, in the event that only a partial answer was provided.
The altered results could potentially have affected the college entrance of 236 high school students; the rest of the test takers were 11th and 10th graders.
Altogether, 5,959 students took the geography exam this year. Accounting for all of this year's exams, the Ministry of Education received 514 appeals that contested the exam results, upon which the ministry changed the results of 134 exams.
