Vocational Higher Education Still Popular
Applied higher education institutions remain popular among high school graduates - so shows the large number of admission applications this year.
Tallinn's College of Applied Sciences has received 2,418 applications for 262 government-subsidized student positions available for this fall. Transport and logistics was the most popular field, drawing in 421 candidates for 25 vacant spots, reported Postimees.
Another 2,505 applications were submitted to the Tallinn Health College. Midwifery has become one of the most popular professions, with around 10 people competing for each vacant spot, said Heli Kraft, head of public relations.
The Maritime Academy received 1,082 applications, which, according to spokeswoman Liis Aavik, is similar to last year's numbers.
Seven hundred applications went to the Aviation Academy. "I cannot say that the contest was higher than expected, yet compared to last year the number of applications increased by 30 or 40," said Liis Linn, head of communications at the academy.
