Ministry Plans Shift to Electronic Teaching
The Ministry of Education is preparing a major upgrade of grade school teaching materials whereby most would be presented in an electronic format by 2020.
In eight years, according to initial plans, students would start using computers and tablets to access study materials, which would be converted into interactive PDF versions. Textbooks and other literature would be turned into e-books that include additional video materials and galleries for better learning, Postimees reported.
According to Siiri Lepasaar, a general education specialist at the ministry, the initial concept, deadlines and financing model will be decided by the end of 2012.
Lepasaar said that using electronic resources for teaching will enrich the learning process as educators, with the help of the efficient materials, will have more time to concentrate on each student individually. Students, she said, will become more independent and able to study at their own pace.
