Top Engineering Scientist: Tech University Should Focus on Essentials
With engineering playing an increasingly smaller role at the Tallinn University of Technology, the school must cut the number of other curriculums, said Mart Min, professor of electronics.
"Currently, we are very fragmented with a huge number of subjects and curriculums," Min told uudised.err.ee. He argued that innovation becomes impossible when resources are divided between too many areas.
"Concentrating our powers is essential. Do less, yet do it better," Min said.
According to Min, engineering makes up one-third of the school’s curriculums, yet its share is constantly declining.
At the same time businesses are expressing discontent towards the university for not being able to train more qualified engineers, Min said, adding that changes should therefore be carried out in both the administrative and financial management of the Tech.
