Former Social Democrat chairman quits party
Jüri Pihl, head of the Social Democratic party for a year and a half from March 2009, has quit the party, saying he has been idle in politics for a while now.
Pihl told Delfi he was planning to leave the party for a while now as he has been inactive in politics for years. He added that there is no resentment, and he has no plans to join any other political party.
The move came as a surprise to the party, and they are yet to comment.
Pihl was the first head of the KaPo, now known as the Internal Security Service, and held the post until 2003, before spending two years as the Prosecutor General. He was the interior minister for two years between 2007-2009 and Tallinn's deputy mayor for a year after that.
He currently heads the private jet company Panaviatic Holding AS.
