Judging by the latest forecast, it would take a Christmas miracle to bring anything more cheerful than rain and sleet for the holidays.

Monday's weather is shaping up to be fairly breezy, with gusts of 60 kph inland and 80 kph on the coasts, according to the Meteorology and Hydrology Institute. The wind should weaken towards evening, however.

The early hours of Christmas Eve Day should come with less precipitation and temperatures ranging from 0 to +3 C. As the day wears on, another system moving over Scandinavia will bring warmer, wetter weather, with increased rain and the possibility of sleet in inland areas. The southeast is likely to remain dry. Temperatures during the day should be +1 to +5 C.

Santa's sleigh will have to contend with two different systems - one from Scandinavia and one from Russia - that will be affecting Estonia on December 25. Their convergence could bring strong winds overnight, but the weather should stay mostly dry. The mercury is expected to remain in the +2 to +5 C zone throughout most of the country, but could drop to 0 C in the east.

An area of high pressure should keep the rain and sleet away for the first half of Thursday, but chances of precipitation will grow towards evening. For most of the country this would be rain, but sleet has not been ruled out for inland regions. Daytime temperatures should be much as they were on Wednesday, but after dark they could finally dip into the freezing zone, as -2 to +3 C is forecast.

Wet weather is in the cards for Friday, with the occasional rain showers possibly coming with a mix of snowflakes. Temperatures are expected to be +1 to +4 C during the day.
