Talk of Estonia's four distinct seasons is being borne out as November seems determined to give fall its proper due, without much in the way of either unseasonable warmth or frost on the ground. At least the sun is expected to show itself this weekend and next week for a total of several minutes to an hour each day.

Tonight will be cloudy, rainy and rather windy, with lows of 2-7 C. But Saturday will bring a clearing trend and temperatures may even hit 10 C. A shower or two is still in the mix, but it will not be heavily overcast. The same goes for Sunday.

It will remain breezy on both days, with winds from the southwest and west at 20-35 kph.

Climatic winter may still be weeks away, and the current temperatures are fairly typical. Last year's November was just as warm as this one, until winter rolled in on November 27 and practically never budged until spring. And in 2011, November was the warmest on record and temperatures stayed above freezing through nearly all of December.

However, this year sea temperatures, which always play an important moderating effect in coastal regions, are a degree or two higher than in years past, perhaps due to the warm wave in late October. By this time last year, Haapsalu's water was already down in the 3-4 C range, but this year, it's in the vicinity of 7-8 C.
