The first day of fall will also mark a turn in the weather and an end to the long rainless stretch.

Those looking to stage outdoor events to give summer a sendoff should plan on Saturday.

Rain will move into the region already on Sunday for the first time since one wet week in August. Temperatures will drop a few degrees by Monday, into the 10-15 C range, with the rain that was initially confined to the south continuing nationwide. Monday is also expected to be windy on the islands and coasts, with sustained winds of 30-45 kph.

Nighttime temperatures will remain initially higher than in the past week due to the cloud cover, though. But in the rest of the week, temperatures will struggle to break above 12 or 13 and nights may again bring a touch of frost.
