Aside from tonight's fireworks displays, 2014 is ending with a bang in temperatures, as well, with a rise of more than 20 degrees in the course of a single day.

The largest difference was measured in Tarvastu in Viljandi county, where the lowest recorded temperature on Tuesday night was -22.7 Celsius. This morning, the thermometer showed a more humane +2.7 degrees C.

The inhabitants of Otepää, Estonia's winter capital, also experienced a temperature hike of more than 20 degrees.

The snow will continue to melt in the first days of 2015, as temperatures are expected to stay on the plus side on Thursday and Friday.
