18 Million New Trees to Be Planted in State Forests This Year
The State Forest Management Center said they will plant 18 million seedlings this year covering over 7,000 hectares of new forests.
Nearly all of the work will be done in spring beginning in this month, the center said today, adding that they will hire 1,700 seasonal staff for the two-month task.
Pines and spruces are the most popular trees to be planted, with a few birches and alders thrown in.
The center planted 18.5 million trees last year, one million more than initially planned, and breaking a record set in 2012 of 17.5 million trees.
