This Week's Weather: Mostly Rain, Possible Storm

Now that the high-pressure zone that kept Monday cold and clear has moved off, the rest of the week is shaping up to be damp and could end in another big blow.

Relatively warm temperatures today, ranging from 3 to 7 C, mean that the mild precipitation currently moving in is likely to come in the form of scattered rain. Winds inland could reach speeds of over 50 kilometers per hour, gusting up to 65 kph on the coasts, according to the Meteorology and Hydrology Institute.

Wednesday's conditions are expected to be calmer in terms of wind, but also colder and slightly wetter, with both rain and sleet a possibility. Temperatures throughout the day should range from -3 to +3 C, but at night will likely drop to the -5 to 0 C zone in most places.

Rain on the islands, and a combination of rain and sleet inland, are in the cards for Thursday as the region is being hit by one low-pressure trough after another. Precipitation should become more frequent by evening and winds are expected to pick up. Temperatures should be -1 to +3.

The weather picture will potentially become more interesting on Friday when a new and highly active low-pressure system arrives on the Baltic Sea. As yet, it is unclear how much of an impact the system will have on Estonia since wind speeds and trajectory could change. However, if the system hits the country with intensity, it will bring heavy snow and sleet as well as coastal gusts exceeding 90 kilometers per hour. Driving conditions could rapidly deteriorate, so anyone planning to head out on the highways should first check for updates and warnings.
