Kids making their annual return to school this week will be happy to hear that they should be able to ditch their raincoats and rubber boots by Tuesday or Wednesday thanks to a clearing trend.

The low-pressure system that brought rain and thunderstorms to parts of the country on Monday is expected to be moving off by Tuesday morning, according to the latest from the Meteorology and Hydrology Institute.

Though isolated showers are still a possibility on Tuesday, the change means fewer clouds and a decreased chance of rain. It will, however, come with increasing winds in the early morning, which could gust above 70 kilometers per hour on the western islands, 50 on the mainland coasts and 40 inland. By daybreak, the winds should ease somewhat, but will still be over 50 kilometers per hour on Kihnu and Ruhnu islands. Daytime temperatures should reach 18 to 19 C, while the night is expected to be a cool 5 to 9 C, dipping down to 0 C in low-lying areas of the mainland.

Wednesday is expected to be calmer and clearer as the air pressure increases, though individual spots of rain have not been ruled out. The day should be mainly sunny with temperatures ranging from 18 to 20 C. Once again, the night will bring a possibility of freezing temperatures in some areas, but the thermometers should stay mainly in the 4 to 9 C zone.

Thursday should see a repeat of Wednesday's calm, clear weather, with most areas warming up to 18 to 21 C. Nighttime temperatures, however, will continue to fall, hitting the 3 to 8 C zone both Thursday and Friday night.

Friday itself should be sunny, dry and even warmer, with the mercury rising to 19 to 22 C - perfect weather for those headed to Karksi-Nuia for the honey festival.
