New LNG and Hybrid Buses Arrive in Pärnu
Two of the five LNG-powered buses purchased for the city of Pärnu will be delivered today by the Road Administration.
The other three buses - hybrids - expected in Pärnu will be delivered as soon as they arrive from the factory. The buses will serve municipal routes, uudised.err.ee reported.
The bus fleet in Narva, where an LNG filling station will soon be ready, is also getting new additions.
Purchased for carbon credits, the two cities are getting a total seven MAN Lions City buses with clean-burning LNG internal combustion engines and three TATA AREA TML CNG Hybrid buses.
The contract, signed by the Road Administration in October, was funded by proceeds of an emissions credit trade made between Estonia and Spain. The new buses cost a little over 4.3 million euros.
For the most part, passengers will probably be unaware that they are not riding diesels. The only telltale sign is a hump - housing the pressurized gas tank - visible on the roof. Similar gas-powered buses are currently serving routes only in Tartu.
