World Cleanup Wraps Up
World Cleanup 2012, a project that has mushroomed from its humble beginnings in Estonia five years ago, will finish its first successful year this month.
Millions of volunteers around the world have participated in the event, launched in March, which aims to raise environmental awareness and responsibility as well as fight the illegal dumping problem, reported uudised.err.ee.
Tomorrow, organizers are hoping to hold the most extensive volunteer action ever undertaken in Russia, with 100,000 volunteers from 72 regions expected to participate. Events will also take place this weekend in Armenia, Belarus, the Philippines, Malaysia and Nigeria.
The most successful initiatives this year were in Slovenia and Bulgaria, the latter attracting as many as 320,000 volunteers.
World Cleanup was founded by Let's Do It, a civic initiative in Estonia.
