ERR News readers would like to see Paet return to foreign ministry (5)
This week ERR asked its readers who they would like to see take over from the recently resigned Estonian Foreign Minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus.
Choosing between four named candidates and three general options, 35 percent said they would like to see Urmas Paet, Estonia's longest-serving foreign minister, who ended his 9-year tenure when he left for the European Parliament in 2014, return to his old office.
Also popular were his fellow MEP Kaja Kallas (23 percent), and Anne Sulling (18.5 percent), the former minister of entrepreneurship and foreign trade.
Whereas 13.5 percent of respondents would rather see a non-political outsider brought in, to lead the Estonian foreign service get through what is said to be a very difficult time internationally, very few believe that there is another member of the Reform Party, or of the Social Democrats or IRL for that matter, who would be able to do that.
The Reform Party announced its decision for the post today, proposing career diplomat Marina Kaljurand, who is not affiliated with any political party, as the candidate.
