Deputy Mayor Struck While Holding Baby
Tallinn Deputy Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart has filed a police report saying that he was attacked by an unfamiliar man in a public place last Friday.
Kõlvart said he was spending the evening with his family in a north Tallinn café when he was approached by a man who acted aggressively and yelled political and ethnic insults, reported uudised.err.ee.
Kõlvart reportedly tried to ignore the insults, but then the man allegedly hit the city official, who was holding his 1.5-year-old daughter, against the head with his hand. The man reportedly jumped back and began accusing Kõlvart of instead hitting him.
The café's staff made a call to the police who upon arrival identified the man and questioned witnesses. Misdemeanor proceedings were initiated.
Kõlvart is known for being an advocate for the rights of Russian-speaking minorities in Estonia.
