An organization that brings together state caregivers, those who care for disabled or sick relatives at home, rehabilitation specialists and medical specialists was launched today.

One of the founders, Tiina Kangro, said in a press release that the aim of the union is to unite and make heard the voices of its members.

She said that they wish to develop the Estonian social system more consistently, systematically and professionally.

Helle Lepik, head of an NGO devoted to home caregivers, said that her organization offers lectures and classes on caregiving, but what was needed was an organization to address the issues on a legislative level.

Speaking at the founding ceremony, Margus Tsahkna, the head of Parliament's Social Affairs Committee, said that in recent years caregiving has been promoted from quiet compassion in society to an important part of the development of the state. He added that the new organization must highlight sore spots in the system.
