The Social Affairs Ministry has produced a new bill that would ease health insurance requirements for people doing work using arrangements other than the traditional employment contract.

Previously a contract for services had to run at least three months but in 2014, the time could be reduced to one month, wrote Tarbija24.

"The draft law states that insurance protection will last two months after the term of the contract expires," said Ülle Jordan, chief specialist at the ministry's health care department.

She said the aim is to make the waiting periods and contract terms uniform for all people working.

The employment contract comes with more protection for employees, but social tax is also paid on the more flexible service contracts.
