Dozens of former and current political heavyweights, as well as academics were present at the sending off of former politician and academic Endel Lippmaa, who died last week at the age of 84.
“Academic Endel Lippmaa was never complacent. He did not allow complacency in himself nor in others. With his resolution and great knowledge he never allowed events to flow easily and comfortably,” President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said.
Parliament Speaker Eiki Nestor said politics sees many debates, but no one debated Lippmaa, his words were as an academic lecturing his students.
Born in Tartu on September 15, 1930, Lippmaa first became an acclaimed academic, before joining politics at the end of the 80s, later becoming a cabinet minister.
