Interior Minister Ken-Marti Vaher said an internal investigation into police conduct was opened after 20 youths ganged up on campers during the midsummer holiday.

Police were called to a camp site at Lemme beach, close to the Estonian-Latvian border, on Sunday after a group attacked campers, Õhtuleht reported.

According to the daily, the police were accused of not doing enough to stop the beatings.

“I have questions and concerns after hearing the description of what happened on Sunday at Lemme beach,” the minister said.

A police spokesperson, Heidy Tammeleht, said three people have been detained.
