Despite the assets of Narva's St. Alexander's Church being slated for receivership, the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church (EELC) said today that the Independence Day services ithis coming February will take place in the historical house of worship.

Arho Tuhkru, the spokesman for the EELC, said the legal status had not spoiled the plans for the service, which is one of several components of the February 24 events in the region.

The Defense Forces parade is set for Jõhvi, also in northeastern Ida-Viru County. The ceremonies are held in a different city or region each year.

Two weeks ago it was reported that the congregation's assets, including the building itself, have been impounded and bankruptcy proceedings have been launched.

The congregation was ordered by a court this summer to pay the builder Eviko 531,000 euros, but wants the building to be administered by the state.
