The police have compiled a list of families who have been under police scrutiny in the past, with the aim of providing officers more background when new problems occur.

The register, which has the names of 12,000 adults and 2,000 children, should make it easier for the police to help children who are in danger, Postimees reported today.

“We began compiling the register last fall, with all names who have filled certain boxes, such as at least two calls to police in one year involving violence, alcohol or drug abuse; in the case of children - theft, missing persons, or children who have run away from homes,” Kari Arumäe, a police spokesperson, said.
