Music Teacher Awarded Father of the Year
A music teacher and father of five, Aavo Ots, received the Father of the Year on November 13.
The award was presented to Ots by the Women's Association at the annual Father's Day gala concert at the Estonia Theater.
According to MEP Siiri Oviir, chairwoman of the organization, Ots earned the recognition for his work at the Academy of Music and Theater where he has founded numerous orchestras and earned the love and respect of his students. In addition, he has also managed to be an outstanding parent for his children, said Oviir.
"Role models make our society stronger and healthier, which is why we choose a father of the year," First Lady Evelin Ilves said in her Father's Day speech.
The association has honored fathers since 1998. Last year the title went to Mayor of Tartu Urmas Kruuse, and in 2009 to veteran politician and cartoonist Heinz Valk.
