Estonia to spend 15 million euros on Polish-built fire engines
Estonian Rescue Agency will receive 43 brand new fire trucks within next 3 years.
In a deal worth over 15 million euros and supported by the European Union funding, the agency will get fire engines that are fitted with modern rescue equipment.
The trucks, costing 355,000 euros each, are equipped by Poland-based WISS, although the chassis is usually produced by a well-known brand, such as Man, Scania or Mercedes.
Currently, the Rescue Agency uses 96 vehicles, out of which 15 were built before 1997 and 34 between 1997-2003.
It is planned that all the new trucks will be delivered by February 2018, when Estonia celebrates its centenary. The old vehicles will be donated to voluntary rescue associations.
WISS claims to be a leading producer of firefighting trucks in Europe, providing vehicles for fire and police departments in 26 countries. Its two production plants are located in Poland and Sweden, where firefighting pumps are produced.
