Police in Haapsalu confiscated around 5,000 counterfeit condoms in a single operation, forcing officers to pull extra hours to destroy the goods, as incineration would have been environmentally unfriendly and each separate condom had to be destroyed with a knife or scissors.

The investigation began in China, where authorities closed down a factory producing the goods and one person who had ordered around 7,500 condoms was an Estonian citizen Erki Post, Lääne Elu reported today.

He had paid 720 euros for 2,400 packets of three condoms, selling 696 before police in Estonia confiscated the rest. Post and his company, Hansa Pere Maja OÜ, were both fined 355 euros.
