Crime Briefs: 910 Hours of Community Service, Abusive Spouse Imprisoned, Police Attacked in Tartu
A middle-aged man in the south of the country was sentenced to a hefty stint of public works stemming from his March 18 speeding and DWI charge.
He was handed 910 hours of community service in court on Tuesday, to be completed within 20 months.
The 910 hours amounts to 114 work days or five and one-half months.

Harju Count today sent a 53-year-old man to jail for ten years on charges of physical abusing and causing bodily harm to his partner, who is disabled.
The defendant was found to have caused grievous bodily harm since December 2011 and failed to care for his partner, despite being responsible for doing so.
The woman, who needs around-the-clock care, did not receive enough food or medicine and her partner withdrew 2,300 euros from her account without permission.

Two men, aged 20 and 40, accused of assaulting policemen in December in Tartu, were handed jail sentences by the Tartu County court today.
Police intervened when one of the men was attacking a third man on Tartu's town square. As the other man was also aggressive, police moved to make the arrest, which resulted in the pair punching and headbutting the police officers.
One of the men received a sentence of three years and ten months partly as he was on a suspended sentence from a previous ruling. The second man was spared a jail term, receiving a ten-month suspended sentence.
Both men had previous convictions and were under the influence of alcohol.
