President Ilves to wed this week (6)
Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will marry Ieva Kupce on January 2 this year, less than a year after divorcing Evelin Ilves, the previous first lady.
The wedding is expected to be a low-key family-only affair, taking place at the Halliste Church in Viljandi County.
The divorce between Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Evelin Ilves came to force on April 30, 2015, after being married for over 10 years. In mid-November, the President became engaged to Kupce.
Kupce, 38, is the head of the National Cyber Security Policy Section of the Latvian Ministry of Defense. She has worked in the field of foreign and security policy in different institutions in Latvia and with NATO, focusing on the issues of security, democracy, and human rights. In 2012, she graduated the mid-career program at Johns Hopkins University in Washington DC and returned to Latvia as adviser to the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense. She also coordinated the establishment of the NATO Strategic Communications Center of Excellence (NATO StratCom COE) in Riga, Latvia.
Ilves's term as president will come to an end in August, 2016.
