UK Authorities Arrest Galojan in London
British extradition officers detained Anna-Maria Galojan in London on February 14, after her fleeing to avoid a five-month prison stint for embezzlement.
Priit Talv, spokesman for the Ministry of Justice told uudised.err.ee that Galojan is due to appear in court today, where her extradition will be decided.
Galojan was convicted last May of stealing around 60,000 euros from a non-profit European Movement Estonia, which she was heading in 2007, and using the money for personal shopping sprees. She received a sentence of 1 year and 10 months in prison, including five months of jail and the rest suspended. She was supposed to report at Tallinn Prison at 10:00 on February 7, yet did not do so, claiming to have fled to London to seek political asylum.
Galojan was also ordered to pay 48,000 euros in restitution damages and 17,700 euros in overdue charges.
