Police-Impersonating Fraudsters Caught (1)

Police officers from the Eastern Police Prefecture have apprehended three men on suspicion of extracting thousands of euros from pensioners by impersonating police.

According to a press release today from the prefecture, the three men, all Lithuanian citizens, allegedly called up elderly people, demanding money for medical expensive for people hurt in traffic accidents caused by the pensioners' relatives or for covering up other fabricated crimes.

More than ten cases of such extortion have been reported, with the criminals collecting 28,000 euros from unsuspecting pensioners.

Vallo Koppel, who heads the prefecture, said that those who have fallen victim to such crimes should not feel embarrassed to call the police.
