Road construction season in the capital begins
Construction workers have closed part of one of the busiest road in Tallinn, the stretch of Tartu maantee before the Peterburi road junction, signaling the start of the road construction season in Tallinn.
That project will go on until May 10, according to initial plans.
Peep Koppel, of the city's Municipal Engineering Service Department, said the work done in winter means there are fewer potholes on Tallinn's roads and the city has been busy preparing for the summer construction season, which usually begins when the last snow has melted and no more heavy snowfall is expected.
Other larger projects include reconstruction on Tammsaare road between July 25 and August 30. Haabersti roundabout, Estonia's most accident-heavy road, will also receive focus, as will Vabaduse road, which will be closed to all traffic except for public transport between May 11 and May 24.
Koppel said this year's weather has allowed the city to begin roadworks earlier.
