Eleven Arrested in Organized Crime Sting
Several law enforcement agencies conducted a joint operation on Monday, arresting eleven people who are allegedly part of a crime syndicate.
State Prosecutor Kati Reitsak said one of the eleven is Assar Paulus, titillated by the media as one of the leaders of organized crime in Estonia.
Õhtuleht said Paulus is number two only behind Nikolai Tarankov in the nation's organized crime hierarchy. Others arrested are also well-known to authorities.
Reitsak said the Central Criminal Police, a few prefectures, the Tax and Custom Board and the police special forces all took part in the operation, which was conducted in more than one location in Estonia.
The Prosecutor's Office said it will not reveal any other details.
