Cultural Venues Win Tartu's Vote for 1% Budget Investment
A proposed investment into sound, light and video equipment for a cultural quarter in Tartu garnered the most votes in the city's direct ballot initiative that will decide how to allocate 1 percent of the municipal budget.
With e-votes counted - about 90 percent of the total 2,600 votes - 635 voters supported the sound and light idea.
In that case, the 140,000 euros will be used to buy equipment for performing arts in the New Teater, Botanic Garden and Uus Õu community square for holding cultural events or festivals.
Children's playgrounds came in second, with 566 e-votes.
The third place idea, which received 271 votes, was improving sport facilities in an area between the Supilinn neighborhood and the Song Festival Grounds.
