Border Guard Official Detained Over Bribe-Taking Suspicion
Authorities detained a Border Guard official from the East Prefecture on Monday on suspicion of repeated bribe-taking.
The official, Oleg Botšin, is also suspected of assisting the illicit trafficking of goods, reported uudised.err.ee.
"The suspected acts have no justification. Although the guilt of each individual in every given criminal case is decided by the courts, it is appropriate to say that crimes connected to official posts are a betrayal of colleagues and damaging for the reputation of the organization," said Vallo Koppel, head of the East Prefecture.
The pre-trial procedure is being carried out by the Internal Security Service and the case will be led by the Viru District Prosecutor.
Widespread the 1990s, bribery among officials has less common these days.
