Investigators have extended the deadline for a psychological assessment of a 15-year old student who shot and killed his teacher at the end of October, in the nation's first ever school shooting.

The deadline was today, but Kristina Kostina, of the Southern District Prosecutor's Office, told uudised.err.ee that experts need more time.

The report should say if the student was culpable during the crime and if he can be tried.

The pupil has been in a medical institution since October 28, one day after the event itself.

The student shot and killed Ene Sarap, 56, during a lesson at the Paalalinna School in Viljandi. No others were harmed, and the shooter did not resist arrest.

According to Estonian laws, minors of at least 14-years old can be prosecuted, and the student, if found guilty, can face up to 10 years in prison.
