A 49-year-old woman died in a snow-tubing accident in Otepää on Tuesday, in what is believed to be the first of this kind of accident in Estonia.

The woman strayed from the downhill course very quickly after beginning the ride down. The tube then took a course for, and hit, nearby trees.

A second woman, 48, was injured in the same accident. Snow-tubing is an activity involving riding down a snow-covered slope in an inner tube.

Police have began an investigation.

The man allegedly crossed the street while the pedestrian light was red. He died on the spot.

At 3:30 am on January 25, police found a three-year-old wandering the streets of Võru, South Estonia, alone.

Police were able to identify where the boy lived and found a smaller child, and a 17-year-old asleep. The 17-year-old, an uncle to the smaller children, had put the children asleep. The toddler woke up later in the night, dressed himself and walked out of the house.

The children received a medical check-up and spent the rest of the night in a hospital where child protection services took over the case the next morning.

Madis Soekarusk, the head of the local police station, said the consequences could have been far more severer.
