ERR's Kannel Wins Public Service Award

 Astrid Kannel. ERR's correspondent during the Maidan clashes in Ukraine, has been named the recepient of the Ene Hion award.

Kannel is one of several ETV news anchors. Along with interviews with prominent politicians on ERR, she was also in the midst of the action on Kyiv's Maidan square during the height of the protests. She later traveled to eastern Ukraine and the Crimea.

The award is handed out annually to people active in society who have left a mark on Estonian life. It has been previously awarded to academic and politician Marju Lauristin, and actor and activist Ene-Liis Semper. Kannel's was the ninth. 

The award is named after Ene Hion, a veteran Estonian journalist who is a founding member of Kodanikukoolitus.  It is partnered with Svenska Kvinnoförbundet, a Swedish Finn women's association.
