The Justice Ministry is drafting a bill which would classify names and other personal details in court verdicts, with the exception of serious crimes.

Director of the ministry's criminal policy department, Kati Maitse-Pärkna, told Postimees on Sunday that names will be replaced by initials, to protect the rights of the defendants and to simplfy the court system.

She said that, according to current legislation, names of convicted must be deleted from verdicts after the punishment has been completed, which is a labor intensive task, adding that names will remain in verdicts for more serious crimes, including murder, crimes against human rights and terrorism.
