The annual campaign to gather support for Estonian Defense Forces and Defense League veterans has so far collected 43,000 euros, slightly more than half way towards the 80,000-euro goal.

“We would like to thank all who have already purchased a blue hepatica badge or have supported us in other ways. We are happy that we have collected a little over half the sum needed to buy a rehabilitation robotic system in the first days of the campaign,” Rasmus Penno, a veteran and organizer, said.

The week of honoring veterans will culminate with a free concert on Freedom Square on April 23, the actual Veterans Day.

The campaign, held for the third time, is similar to the “poppy campaign” in the UK, Canada and Australia, to commemorate and support soldiers.

Estonia has nearly 3,000 veterans who have participated in Allied operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Mali. A total of 11 soldiers lost their lives during these operations.

The campaign is organized by the Estonian Association of Wounded Warriors and Women’s Voluntary Defense Organization.

Last year, the campaign raised almost 68,000 euros, which went towards rehabilitation unit at the East-Tallinn Central Hospital.

Each Hepatica flower pin is uniquely crafted by people with special needs from all over Estonia The pins are distributed by the Hea Hoog Foundation and sold in Selver outlets, Rahva Raamat bookshops, SEBE buses marked with a Blue Hepatica flower, Olerex gas stations, R-kiosks, and Tallinn Airport shops from April 9 to May 3.
