ESTCube Picks up Another Award, ERR's 'Feat of the Year'
After daily Postimees named Mart Noorma, ESTCube's consultant, as its person of the year for 2013, ERR has awarded the project its first ever “Feat of the Year” prize.
The requirements for ERR's annual award were advancing Estonia, changing attitudes and creating positive emotions.
The other events mentioned by the jury were a speech by Mari-Liis Lill, the founding of a caregivers union and creating awareness of the profession of caregivers, a night song festival and a summer opinion festival.
The one-kilogram ESTCube-1 satellite was launched in May from French Guiana and put Estonia in space for the first time.
Noorma, who collected the prize at a ceremony on Monday, told ERR that the roots of the project can be traced to 2006 when Estonia began cooperating with the European Space Agency, although work began in 2008.
The project was headed by the University of Tartu, but involved work by other universities in Estonia and abroad.
