Estonian Drug Mules Sentenced to Nearly 9 Years in Peru Jail (1)
Two young Estonian women on trial for attempting to smuggle a large quantity of cocaine from Peru have been handed a sentence of eight years and eight months.
The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday that they will push for a transfer of the prisoners to Estonia, adding that they are in contact with the lawyers and family of Anne Maarja Gross and Anne Kolk.
The women were caught last October at the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport in southeastern Peru with nearly 6 kilograms of the drug.
There are around 30 Estonian prison inmates in South America.
