'World Cleanup' Nominated for UN Human Rights Award
The Foreign Ministry announced it will nominate the “Let's Do It!” cleanup initiative as the Estonian candidate for the UN human rights award.
Started in Estonia in 2008 as a grassroots effort to rally volunteers to pick up trash around the country, the “Let's Do It!” NGO later rapidly expanded into a successful worldwide project, drawing millions of participants from 96 countries in 2012. Known as “World Cleanup,” the event took place for the second time this year.
The UN's human rights award is given to five or more nominees once every five years. It will be presented on Human Rights Day, December 10, at the UN headquarters in New York.
