Tallinn has been labeled the “emerging star of the Baltics” by Harpers Bazaar’s magazine which featured the Estonian capital in a list of the 10 most underrated cities in Europe to visit.

The latest edition of the magazine highlighted the “burgeoning foodie scene” and “fascinating hybrid of Russian and Scandinavian culture”, and, of course, the UNESCO-protected Old Town as reasons to visit.

It said: “Tallinn is a must-see for anyone bored of pedestrian city breaks. Easily accessible by a short direct flight from London, this charming city is the emerging star of the Baltics.”

Figures released by Tallinn Tourism show that during the first three months of 2015, there were 279,608 visitors who stayed for at least one night in a hotel or hostel in the city.

Other cities that made the magazine’s list were: Bruges, Budapest, Edinburgh, Helsinki, Salzburg, and Verona – the setting for William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Seville in Spain, Porto in Portugal, and Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
