Estonian common sense derives from Christian foundations, says Archbishop Viilma
Estonians are not aware of the fact their common sense and morals are based on a Christian foundation, Archbishop Urmas Viilma of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church, said on Tudengi TV.
He said much of what Estonians hold to be just common sense is from the Christian matrix or from certain backgrounds, adding that many Estonian proverbs have been lifted directly from the Old Testament.
On Sunday, Viilma declared Christmas peace. Speaking in the central Estonian town of Jõgeva, Viilma said Christmas time is a time of light and peace when all people should feel they are brothers and sisters.
“When Christmas peace is declared, it should mean that we no longer have to fear the dark as we know that all of us, who are here, all who live under this sun, are brothers and sisters and we are united by love for one another,” he said.
