Head of the Certification Center Kalev Pihl said that thanks to a new initiative they hope to increase the number of people using smartphones for digital signatures sevenfold to 300,000 by 2017.

Speaking at a conference dedicated to the International Safer Internet Day Tuesday, Pihl said that there could be 800,000 smart phones in Estonia by 2017, and many could be using mobile-ID functions.

The initiative, which was launched at the end of last year by the nation's largest banks, telecommunications companies and state institutions, aims to create awareness in smartphone users to the possibilities and dangers the phones offer.
